Mage's Academy

The Mage’s Academy is Faia’s preeminent institution for magical education and research, functioning as a central hub for all mages. It provides structured training for all four affinities to any eligible Faian, no tuition required. Under the continued guidance of the four Archmages, the Academy is a crucial center of magical knowledge, dedicated to developing new spells and expanding Faia’s understanding of affinity magic.

ORGANIZATION TYPE: Scholarly Institution
PURPOSE: To provide magical education and research, training generations of Faian mages.
SYMBOL: A Mage’s Staff.

PRIMARY LOCATION: Located on the Eastern segment of the sky island, Valona.
LEADERSHIP AND HIERARCHY: The Mage’s Academy is led by the four Archmages, one of each affinity. Beneath the Archmages, there are Masters, who specialize in certain fields of affinity magic. Examples include the Master Healer, Master of Combat, and more. Masters are responsible for teaching their field to higher ranked and specialized students, as well as research. Next are the Professors, who are responsible for general teaching and sometimes research. Professors sometimes have Assistants, though this is not needed most of the time.
MEMBERSHIP: Any Faian with an activated affinity is eligible to attend the Mage’s Academy as a student. Once enrolled, they will progress through the four ranks of the Academy, each more rigorous than the last. As the sole institution for magical education, most faculty members of the Academy are alumni.

STANDING: The Mage’s Academy is highly respected for its role in producing skilled Mages vital to Faia’s further development. Many Faians, especially those living in settlements with a trained local mage, put aside wisps each month to donate and show gratitude.
FUNDING: The Mage’s Academy is funded by donations. There is no tuition, only a fee for room and board.

KEY ACTIVITIES:

• Collecting and preserving magical texts.
• Training graduates to become local mages for settlements.

NOTABLE ACHIEVEMENTS:

• Developed magical solutions for challenges faced by Lightkeeper settlements, such as the large-scale Shielded Dome spell to protect settlements during Cometfall.
• Trained generations of Faian Mages, and generations more to come.

HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: The Mage’s Academy was established very early in Lightkeeper history. The deities played a large role in its creation, training the first four Archmages and building the very structure of the Academy. While the four Archmages continued to communicate regularly with the deities for guidance, the deities’ presence lessened over time, leading to the formation of the Sanctum of the Fourfold as the Academy finally took matters into their own hands.
