What is the Realm of Faia? The Realm of Faia is a closed species ARPG, where the core game mechanicis creating art or writing pieces based off of our prompts. Doing so will reward you with in-game currency, which you can use to create your own characters, upgrade your characters with unique traits, collect pets, and more! Our goal is to encourage art development, character development, and creativity!

Keepers of Light, Conquerers of Darkness... The Realm of Faia has a special emphasis on lore and worldbuilding. Our lore focuses on the struggle between the Lightkeepers, our four playable species, and the Wither. Archways Away, our main storyline quests, are in the works and set for release in December. Terms & Definitions

Here is a mini-encyclopedia of all of the terms and definitions you'll need to know! If you are already familiar with the mechanics of closed species ARPGs, you can skip over the GENERAL section.

General

• ARPG: Stands for Art Role-Playing Game. A community-based game where creating art is the core mechanic for game progression.
• CS: Stands for Closed Species. A type of original species where making your own character requires a MYO.
• MYO: Stands for Make-Your-Own . An in-game item that allows you to create your own Closed Species character.
• Trait: Aspects of a closed-species character that must be chosen from our available traits. There are rarities within traits.
• ARPG Character: A persona that you create and develop within the ARPG's world and through its prompts.
• FTO: Stands for First-Time-Owner. Refers to a player who has never own a character or MYO ticket from the ARPG.
• Prompt: A specific challenge or scenario provided by the ARPG that is meant to encourage creativity, art development, or character development. Completing prompts yields in-game rewards and ARPG currency. They are also sometimes referred to as Quests.
• Event: A limited-time (typically 1 month per event in Faia, see all here) challenge with exclusive prompts, items to collect, activities, etc.
• ARPG/Species Currency: An in-game currency that can be used to purchase in-game items, such as MYO tickets, trait items, pets, etc. Earned through prompts, events, and activities.

Faia

• Faia: The name of the world that our four closed species inhabit. All lore and worldbuilding can be found in the Library or World Expanded.
• CN: Candle Noodle, one of our closed species.
• LM: Lumendra, one of our closed species.
• TR: Tortuvina, one of our closed species.
• RU: Ruptour, one of our closed species.
• Wisp: The main currency of the ARPG. Obtainable through most prompts.
• KC: Stands for Kelp Coins. A secondary currency of the ARPG that is only used to purchase cosmetic items. Obtainable through Kelp Coin prompts.
• Pets: Also referred to as 'critters'. Collectible companions that can be attached to your Faian characters and drawn for a currency bonus.
• Subtypes: Also referred to as 'restricted trait sets.' Special sets of traits in the Restricted rarity that require potions or charms to use.
• Potions: A type of restricted trait item. One potion applies any one trait from its restricted trait set.
• Charms: A type of restricted trait item. One charm applies any and all traits from its restricted trait set.

Although joining the Discord server is completely optional, it is highly recommended! Official adopts, customs, events, and activities are announced there, as well as exclusive giveaways, teasers, and polls from time to time. Additionally, trading  between players is an integral aspect of this ARPG, and there are designated trading channels in the Discord server to facilitate that! We have a very welcoming community, and would love for you to join us!

Obtaining A character

There are several FTO/FTP-friendly ways to obtain ARPG characters and MYO tickets! Note that if you are a FTO, you can still complete General, KC, Event, Monthly, and Seasonal, prompts using any character with gift art turned on to earn currency. (May be helpful: Design & MYO Guide)

Free

• Annual MYO Event: Each year during the month of January, a free MYO event is held on ToyHouse! Free Common as well as Unusual MYO tickets will be given out.
• Monthly Raffles: Each month, a free-to-enter character raffle is posted to ToyHouse by spectralswan. These are typically just fav to enter, make sure to try your luck!

ARPG participation

• Events: Sometimes, during non-annual events or event activities, official customs, characters, and/or MYO tickets are available as prizes. Keep an eye out on the News tab, as all events are announced there!
• Trading: We have designated trading channels in the Discord server! There, you can likely find people looking to trade their characters or MYO tickets for ARPG currency, items, art, or real money.
• MYO Ticket Crafting: Upon registration, you unlock free crafting recipes to craft common MYO tickets for each of the four species. Most of the ingredients for these recipes can be found through our free daily explore system (more info below), with the final ingerdient obtainable through an annually completeable, species-specific art prompt (CN prompt, LM prompt, TR prompt, RU prompt).
• MYO Ticket: MYO tickets can simply be purchased for species currency earned through prompts! They can be purchased from the General Shop for Wisps (main ARPG currency) at any time.

Real money

• MYO Ticket: MYO tickets can also be purchased from the Supporter Shop for Blaze Tokens (Ko-Fi supporter reward currency), or purchased directly from Faia's Ko-Fi for USD.
• Official Adopts: Keep an eye out for official adopts, which are posted in the Site Sales tab (as well as announced in the Discord)! They are typically sold for USD in flatsale or auction format.
• Official Customs: While customs aren't normally open, slots will open and be announced through the Discord server every now and then.

Now comes the fun part: actually playing the ARPG! Most ARPG items can be obtained through shops for in-game currency, which this first section below will cover. The next section will cover all of the activities you can participate in as part of the ARPG, including both FTO-friendly activities and more development-focused activities that require your own character!

Shops

All shops can be found here! Here is a summary of what each shop is for. (May be helpful: (Earning) Currency Guide)

always open

• General Shop: Stocks MYOs, basic trait items (common, unusual, rare, and legendary trait rarities only), and design edit items (for redesigns). Currency: Wisps.
• Pet Shop: Also known as Critter County. Stocks pet variant-swapping items and pets obtainable from daily exploration. Currency: Wisps.
• Adventurer's Guild: This is where you can redeem your daily and weekly explore passes for your free loot crates! Currency: Daily Explore Passes, Weekly Explore Passes.

Open at certain times

• Event Shop: A shop only open when annual events are live. Stock changes depending on the event, but typically includes the event's exclusive restricted trait items, pet, and figurine box (for Festivals- see the Serpent's Glade introduction). Currency: Wisps.
• Botanique: A seasonal shop only open during Bloom Season (Spring). Stocks Bloom seasonal restricted trait items, non cash-exclusive seasonal pets, and recipes to craft the seasonal site theme. Currency: Kelp Coins.
• SharkMart: A seasonal shop only open during Bay Season (Summer). Stocks Bay seasonal restricted trait items, non cash-exclusive seasonal pets, and recipes to craft the seasonal site theme. Currency: Kelp Coins.
• Maple Magic: A seasonal shop only open during Harvest Season (Fall). Stocks Harvest seasonal restricted trait items, non cash-exclusive seasonal pets, and recipes to craft the seasonal site theme. Currency: Kelp Coins.
• The Hearth: A seasonal shop only open during Frost Season (Winter). Stocks Frost seasonal restricted trait items, non cash-exclusive seasonal pets, and recipes to craft the seasonal site theme. Currency: Kelp Coins.
  
  

Real money

• Supporter Shop: Stocks MYOs, trait and design edit items, currency exchange, site themes, seasonal & cash-exclusive restricted trait items, pets obtainable from weekly exploration, seasonal & cash-exclusive pets, and affinity items. Currency: Blaze Tokens (obtained by being a Ko-Fi supporter). 
• Ko-Fi Shop: The ARPG's cash shop! Stocks all current seasonal and event items, as well as cash-exclusive restricted trait items, pets, MYOs, affinity items, and more. Currency: USD. All funds will either go towards the site's hosting fee or adding new content to the ARPG!

FTO-FRiendly Activities

You do not need to own a character to participate in these ARPG activities.
 

Prompts

(May be helpful: Prompt Value Guide) The following prompt categories can be completed by characters owned by others with gift art turned on (or gift writing): General, Kelp Coin, Event, Monthly, and Seasonal prompts. Both art and writing are accepted for all prompts except Kelp Coin prompts (art only). Faia's are designed to inspire players and facilitate both character and art development. If you are currently experiencing artblock, I'd especially recommend checking out the Kelp Coin prompts!

NOT YET RELEASED [3/4] ARCHWAYS AWAY: MAIN STORYLINE QUESTS

[SET FOR RELEASE STARTING FEBRUARY] Archways Away is the main storyline campaign of Faia! It includes 4 questlines for 4 alternate timelines of events, with a different main character/party for each. For 3/4 questlines, you will be provided with a hero NPC to draw, so you will not need your own character. As you progress through each storyline, you will unlock the missing lore of Faia's past, as well as other in-game discoveries...

Events

There are a total of 8 annual events, which last one month each. The full event schedule can be viewed here! During events, you will get the opportunity to collect exclusive event-specific items such as restricted trait items, pets, figurines, and more. Each event has its own lore-premise, as well as related prompts for your characters to delve into. Most annual events also come with an extra activity such as wish-granting, Secret Santa, community worldbuilding (may also be hosted on off-months as its own event), and more!

Serpent's Glade

The Serpent's Glade is a mini storyline! Its lore can be found here, and its introduction as an activity can be found here. To enter the Serpent's Glade, you will need to complete 4 collections of 13 figurines, one collection for each seasonal event (Bloom Festival, Rite of the Reef/Bay Festival, Harvest Festival, Frost Festival). These figurines can be obtained by completing their respective event prompts, or purchased for wisps in the event shop. Upon completing all 4 collections, you will unlock a special shop (with exclusive stock and possibly gifts...), continuation lore, and the first Archways Away storyline: From Chaos, Light.

Dailies & weeklies

Our free-daily system is referred to as exploration! Each day, you can collect a free Daily Explore Pass or Weekly Explore Pass (once every 7 claims) here. Passes can then be redeemed at the Adventurer's Guild for exploration loot crates, which contain a large variety of randomized rewards depending on the loot crate chosen. Note: This is meant to be a small extra reward on the side, not your main source of item / currency income! Rewards from daily crates are often small in order to keep the economy balanced.

Crafting

Upon registration, you unlock 14 free crafting recipes! These include the recipes for 4 MYO tickets (one for each species), trait and design edit items, affinity totems, pet variant swap, and the box of junk. Trait and design edit items of lower rarities can be combined to craft their higher-rarity counterparts. Affinity totems can be crafted using 4 affinity fragments of the same affinity, which can be obtained from exploration. Pet variant swaps are used to swap the color variant of pets, and can be crafted using 1 cube of each color (pink, yellow, blue), which can be obtained from opening pet carriers and the Pet Shop. And finally, the Box of Junk is a pet carrier that can be crafted using excess items in your inventory, such as: extra MYO crafting materials, paint bottles, festival figurines, and more!

Collect pets

Faia is home to countless pet species that you, as a player, can collect! Pets can be obtained from the Pet Shop, both daily and weekly explore loot, seasonal shops (for seasonal pets), the Supporter Shop/Ko-Fi (for cash-exclusive as well as other types of pets), the Event Shop (for event pets), and from events as prizes. Each pet comes with 5 different variants, which you can choose between using the Variant Swap item. Note: while there is currently no functionality for pets beyond assigning them to your characters, pet activities are planned for the future!

As you progress through the storyline, you will unlock the missing lore of Faia's past, as well as a 5th affinity...

Mage's Academy

A full guide to the Mage's Academy can be found here! Upon activating an affinity using an affinity totem (guide to affinities), your character can enroll in the Mage's Academy and start progressing through its ranks. Not only will this increase your character's affinity level and power, it will also grant them a Greater Affinity Spirit (their very own magical companion...) upon reaching Mage status! More playability for Mages including spells and raids are planned for release in the future.

Cultivating Skills

A full guide to Skills and the Bulletin Board can be found here! Through skill prompts, your characters can explore and develop their personal interests, with 20 total skills to choose from! Upon becoming proficient at a certain skill by leveling it up to lvl 3, they unlock the ability to take on jobs (prompts) from the Bulletin Board, which reward more wisps then regular prompts.
