The Iron Crucible

The Iron Crucible is Faia’s preeminent guild of blacksmiths and artificers combined. While their blacksmiths forge the most durable weapons, armor, and vital components for everything from airships to settlements, it is their mastery of enchantment that sets their products apart. The guild’s artificers delve deep into the art of imbuing objects, fusing powerful spells and magical properties into physical forms. The Iron Crucible is often referred to as ‘the Forge of Faia’ for their leading role in the realm’s defense and innovation.

ORGANIZATION TYPE: Guild
PURPOSE: To forge and enchant high-quality weapons, armor, and essential tools.
SYMBOL: A hammer and anvil.

PRIMARY LOCATION: The Crucible’s headquarters are located in Norden City. Additionally, the guild maintains forges and workshops in most large settlements.
LEADERSHIP AND HIERARCHY: The Iron Crucible is co-led by a master smith and a master artificer. Beneath these two leaders, a small council of weaponsmiths, armorsmiths, etc. help to make decisions.
MEMBERSHIP: Membership is somewhat exclusive, only open to blacksmiths and artificers who have demonstrated a significant level of skill. Membership is sometimes passed down through families.

STANDING: The Iron Crucible’s products are highly valued for both their quality and magical enhancements. However, due to the exclusivity of their membership as well the generally intimidating air that their members give off, many Faians see the Crucible as elitist and arrogant.
FUNDING: The Iron Crucible is primarily funded through the sale of their crafted goods, as they are of extremely high quality and highly sought after by organizations such as the Adventurer’s Guild. Additional funding also comes from membership fees.

KEY ACTIVITIES:

  • Forging weapons, armors, and tools, often imbued with magical properties.
  • Crafting specialized equipment for exploration, construction, and daily life, often imbued with magical properties.
  • Researching and developing new alloys and materials.
  • Producing airship components for The Wayfinder’s Pact. Training new generations of blacksmiths and artificers.

NOTABLE ACHIEVEMENTS:

  • Developed flame-blasting equipment that allowed the Adventurer’s Guild to quickly explore and de-wither islands.
  • Provided the foundational tools for Faia’s expanding infrastructure.
  • Mastered the craft of imbuing objects with magical properties.
  • Gifted the Mage’s Academy an arsenal of enchanted weaponry, providing the resources to train generations of combat Mages.

HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: When the Iron Crucible was founded, most Faians were skeptical if imbuing regular objects with magical properties was even possible. However, with the help of the Mage’s Academy, the Iron Crucible proved them wrong. Today, the guild is absolutely vital to Lightkeeper growth, producing the most effective weapons, armor, and tools in the Realm.
