Riding the waves

The roaring waves crashed into the shore, and a chill rush ran up Yuan yuan’s back. He looked down beside him at his navy blue surfboard with red speckles to match his own patterns on his tail, readying himself. This was Yuan yuan’s first time ever surfing and he had too much pride to join the rookie class with Koi. Yuan yuan shuffled nervously and bit his lower lip in anticipation. Just then across the shore, another surfer had run into the ocean on their surfboard and swam out into the ocean, and the glint of a blade was what caught Yuan yuan’s eye. The surfer waited and watched as wave by wave went past them, keeping their eyes peeled for the perfect moment to catch the wave. After a moment, the surfer bolted alongside a particularly large wave and swam with it until the arch of the wave began to grow. Yuan yuan could only watch in awe as the wave picked up the surfer and guided them towards the beach, spraying seafoam in a wispy trail behind them. Yuan yuan couldn’t help but beam a little at the sight. Once the wave got close enough to the shore, the surfer dismounted the wave and let out a little cheer before swimming back out to sea to ride again. Now Yuan yuan had the fuel he needed to get himself into the ocean and to ride his own wave. He quickly grabbed his surfboard and hurried out into the ocean to around the same spot the surfer had been just a moment ago. Once he felt steady enough, he perked his head up to keep watch for the next good wave. Just as he looked up, a massive wave had begun to pick up practically begging Yuan yuan to ride it. He let out a deep breath and focused his vision, and just like that the wave had picked him up and he was riding alongside it. A huge smile appeared on his face as he howled in delight, crouching to keep himself steady as the wave tumbled towards the shore. Just as the moment was there, and Yuan yuan was having the time of his life, it was gone and he swam towards the shore. A little out of breath, he marched back onto the beach to marvel at his own success.

 Yuan yuan looked back out to the ocean where he had been just seconds before and readied himself for round 2. Once he caught his breath, he charged back into the waters to challenge the waves once again. Yuan yuan was back at the spot to scout for waves and was as eager as ever, practically shaking in excitement and adrenaline. This time, the waves were a little calmer and he had to test his patience waiting for the next big wave. Then, just like before a larger wave started to drive closer to him. Yuan yuan started to swim to chase the wave about to pick him up, and just like that he had boarded the wave once more. He let out another yelp of excitement and steadily carved his way through the wave. Just then he heard a voice shout from the side of him. “Yooooo!!! Sick moves little dude!” The gruff voice of the previous Ruptour surfer called out to him and Yuan yuan turned back to smile at him. “Thanks man! This is my first time on the waves!” Yuan yuan replied somewhat nervously. The Ruptour shouted something back, but Yuan yuan couldn’t make it out over the belching sound of the water crashing behind him and he just gave him thumbs up. The surfer grinned back and gave him the peace sign before doing an ollie and gliding out of the wave to swim back to the pickup point. Yuan yuan took it as his own que to dismount the wave before it got too close to shore and steadily made his own way out.
