Not All Rites Are Loud

Moments after they went back to the shore, Mirae and Ceci went back to their quite solitude. Up in the small hill not far from the beach itself. The soft night breeze with the scent of the sea blew around them, giving just one last touch of the night.

Mirae is now nestled on her flower-sticthed picnic mat, her wings were folded neatly under her mist as she closed her eyes in serene. And Ceci, after taking her time getting too comfortable on Mirae's head and reconsider her choices, had finally decide to flopped down next to her owner, immediately snuggled to Mirae's soft body mist.

Both sat quietly, far from the bustling crowds on the beach where echoes of laughter and musics from the rite can still be heard.

Mirae slowly exhaled, her pink mists curled out as she did, "Mmm...everything smells like sea foams and stardusts from up here," she murmured, "Don't you think so, Ceci?"

Ceci chirps softly, still all comfortable and eyes closed as she flops her head down.

Mirae giggles and reached for her satchel. Rice cakes, as always, to accompany their night. All decorated with flower petals and dusted with tiny sugar crystals that twinkles under the moon. They were slightly squished from the long trip, but of course, it was better than nothing as she took one delicious bite.

"Sweetling," Mirae whispered, leaning down towards the Sphowlx next to her, "Would you like to have some? Or would you rather for me to have this extra sweet rice cakes for myself?"

Ceci lets out a startled squeak as she immediately took one rice cake from the box and began to peck them, in a rather agressive way, all while giving Mirae a side-eye.

"You greedy little thing," Mirae laughed at her pet's stunts, "You should know I'll share with you anyway, even when I said otherwise,"

The two continued to enjoy their night snack. Mirae stared at the wide sea, where the very last lantern drifted away to the water's edge. She then rests her head down to the mat.

"Do you think the lanterns would just...dissappear?" she asked aloud, "Or do they simply turned to dreams the moment they reached the edge of the realm?"

Ceci flaps her wing a little as she took one final bite of the rice cake, before taking her time to climb to Mirae's head and flopped herself atop her owner's head and let out a chirp.

"That's fair," Mirae chuckles, "They'll most definetly turned to many dusts of dreams. Otherwise, you wouldn't get to have these sweets,"

She took a deep breath and exhaled, letting the mists of her body gently merged with the ground. The stars were up above are glowing. Slowly. Steadily. As if they too had been watching.

“You know, Ceci,” Mirae whispered, “I used to think I had to join everyone to feel...part of something,”

Ceci tilted her head.

“But this? This right here?” Mirae said, spreading her wing in a small sweeping gesture, “This is enough sometimes. The quiet, the view...and you.”

Ceci let out a soft, satisfied chirp, curling up tighter on Mirae’s head.

The silence that followed after was not empty. It was all warm, full of unspoken gratitude. Mirae reached for another rice cake. Split it in two. Placed one on top of her her as Ceci nibble on them in content.

Because the rite wasn’t just about the crowds or the songs or the traditions.

It was about the little things too.

The glow of a lanterns from afar, the accompany of the sleepy Sphowlx, and the sweetness of a rice cake shared under a sky full of stars.
