Travel Preparations
The Blade of the Harvest Fae, a ruptour known as Blade to most Faians he meets, was sorting through his items in the cabin he considered a home base. Outside, the weather on Aurelia was typical for the island. Aurelia may be an island that epitomized the Harvest Season year round but it could not avoid the coming of the breezes that carried a bit of warmth, signaling the beginning of the Bay Season in the Realm.
This packing was not for a quest put upon him by the Harvest Fae, the mysterious sprites that hold power over Blade, nor was it a for a paid mercenary job that kept food on the table. It was for something that Blade had not had a chance to experience before.
The Rite of the Reef.
The celebration was new to the ruptour. Blade had only been freed from his amulet and reawakened in the past year.
From what he gathered about the Rite’s purpose and traditions from neighbors that had attended before, it seemed like a perfect opportunity to learn what exactly happened right after he and the many other ruptours had been sealed away. The time spent between his reawakening and now had been filled with lessons on the modern era, and on acceptable behavior.
But history?
Frankly, Blade was not sure if he would have been ready for history lessons until now.
It was not that far from Aurelia to Lylluna Reef, so this journey would be relatively short. Blade would not need to pack much. He made a mental note of what he would need to bring and do before leaving.
Food is of major importance for most living creatures, including Blade. He had heard that Vence, the seaport he would be landing in once reaching the Reef, was a hot spot for fresh seafood. Fish is one of Blade’s favorite foods, yet one he is not able to have as often as he would like. He must admit to himself that even if the Rite of the Reef was not happening, Blade would like to travel to Vence anyway.
So, no need for packing much food; Blade would bring enough currency with him for the best seafood meals he would ever have. For the boat journey though, it would be wise to bring along dried mushroom snacks and certain roots that aid in easing seasickness. He was sure he had both of that in his pantry.
Where would be staying while on Lylluna Reef? Most of his budget was set aside for food, and Blade was not one for hotel stays anyway. He decided camping nearby one of the more remote beaches would be the best bet. Economical, and a chance to experience all the natural world the island has to offer. He already had his tent packed as well as blankets for any chilly nights by the water.
Just as he had thought, not too much was to be brought along.
As with most vacations, prior responsibilities must be dealt with first. Blade had completed his most recent jobs and let his usual repeat clients know he would be unavailable for a short time. His cabin was remote and would be safe from intruders thanks to the Harvest Fae’s protection.
Another issue Blade had to consider… the Harvest Fae. Blade might receive a message to return to Aurelia, to do their capricious bidding. They have given Blade so much yet have taken away as well, if not more. He decides that if it comes to that, he will decide what to do then.
Or, better yet, just ignore them.
---
Blade looked to the window to see the light of daytime was dwindling. It was almost time to leave if he wished to catch his boat. The ruptour had put together his pack and was ready to embark on this journey.
The Rite of the Reef… it was as mysterious to him as the realms were when he was first awoken from stasis.
The Blade of the Harvest Fae faced west where the seaport was and smiled to himself. He could not wait to attend!
